Saturday. SATURN DAY... with ANNA SIGRIDUR OLAFSDOTTIR
Time, Boundaries, Structure, Laws, Responsibility
What my group worked on was the time concept. The main thing in that
aspect was to realize how valuable time is and how important it was for
them to use their time wisely. It also brought to focus their
responsibility as individuals, that things didn't start "out there
somewhere", but right in their own backyard. That's the starting point
for all of us. There was one sentence that struck us more than others
in Local Agenda 21 text, "We do not inherit the earth from our
ancestors, We borrow it from our children." That is such a good phrase
to realize our own responsibility. What they did then on the work front
was to make a picture of themselves in full size, for them to see what
they were bringing with them from their visit and work in Iceland. Some
brought the time issue into their pictures, what they had learned about
their responsibility towards time.
The exhibition they made was including their pictures and also using
face paint and sentences on paperboards to give messages to the
viewers. At the same time they were being untouchable and presenting
the "box" society. The students thought the presenters of all the main
issues in the world didn't reach out to the people, but always had this
distance, which made the kids feel as if they could not really make a
difference, since the people who are in charge of all the greater
issues are to hard to reach.
TIME
- Make small changes to your lifestyle, step-by-step you will reduce your eco-footprint without the stress of time management.
- Keep flows local - take holidays closer to home, live as near to things like work, school, shops, etc as possible.
- Consider
your links to the past and the future - we have not inherited the earth
from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children - investigate old,
lost ways of doing things, e.g. old cosmetic recipes, using natural
ingredients. Think what kind of world we are creating for future
generations.
-Develop effective time-keeping skills - time is
precious - use yours wisely - know your aim/purpose/priorities and keep
them in focus. Do not allow boredom and idleness to feature in your
life.
- Recognise that time is a cost factor too, don´t just think of things in monetary terms.
