THURSDAY...with HERA OLAFSDOTTIR
Thursday is Thor's day...
Space, Balance, Curiosity, Storytelling, Make sense of information.
Theater in the Attic!!
We had the theme Thursday, and that's Thor. SPACE....First we explored what space is to us. We were thinking about the universe. But also the space around our bodies. We decided to tell a story with teaching. We were in the attic, there we built a stage, a VERY handsome stage! It was spacy! People crossed lots of doors to get to the stage. The doors were symbols, maybe different for everyone, but for us it was different steps that you have to enter and pass. The story we made up was a little fairytale. The story was about Earth and Sun. We wanted to give Earth feelings and also make the audience choose the end. Once Earth and Sun found each other, they lived happily and promised each other eternal light and warmth. Then one day, an uninvited guest shows up. The Human! A terrible creature who thinks he owns Earth. He uses her and tortures her. What should Earth do? The audience had some ideas. We wanted a happy ending! To bring hope. We thought that "human" could change, be a good person and guest. So Earth, Sun, Jupiter and Human could live happy forever!

SPACE

  • Consider alternative housing - straw bale building, self-build, tipis, yurts, earth housing.
  • Use environmentally sound products inside buildings - eco-paints, natural fibres, untreated local wood, etc.
  • Seek recycled products such as rubber-tyre roofing tiles.
  • Turf roofs provide an attractive alternative for roofing, ideal for encouraging wildlife.
  • Maximise natural lighting in buildings.
  • Use conservatories for passive heating of houses.
  • Ensure maximum insulation is achieved in buildings - use environmentally sound materials such as sheep´s wool insulation - local, low embodied energy, renewable, etc.
  • Double, triple or quadruple glaze windows, use draught excluders, heavy furnishings.
  • Choose energy efficient appliances and consider which appliances you really need.
